Lady Cats Win Fourth Straight with 67-57 Win at UDC

Senior forward Jessica Zapf (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored a game-high 21 points, and senior guard Allison Krischer (Johnstown, Pa.) added 17 points to lead Head Coach Jodi Gault's Lady Cats to a 67-57 win at the University of the District of Columbia, Monday evening. With the win, Pitt Johnstown has won four straight games and improved to 14-4 on the year.
Along with her 7-11 shooting from the field and 7-8 from the free-throw line, Zapf grabbed a team-high six rebounds, had four assists and made three steals. Krischer finished with 17 points, six assists and a career-high 10 steals, while red-shirt sophomore forward Krista Britcher (Johnstown, Pa.) had eight points off the bench and sophomore forward Lindsay Cale (Hummelstown, Pa.) chipped in seven points and four rebounds. Coach Gault also got five rebounds from red-shirt junior forward Sarah Priest (Johnstown, Pa.) in the victory.
Zapf is now 13 points shy of Carol Mumma (1978-82) for 20th place on the Lady Cat All-Time Scoring List, and Krischer is one point away from Suzy Shimkus (1980-84) for 25th on the scoring list. Zapf has 1,122 career points and Krischer has 1,043 points. With her six rebounds, Zapf moved into sixth place on the Lady Cat All-Time Rebounding List with 770 rebounds.
The Lady Cats took a 29-23 halftime lea and built six leads by as many as nine points in the second half, before making six of their eight free-throws in the last 1:12 to seal the win.
Pitt Johnstown shot 40.7% (24-59) from the field and 81.0% (17-21) from the free-throw line, while holding the Firebirds to 21-55 (38.2%) from the field and 9-13 (69.2%) from the free-throw line. The Lady Cats, despite getting out rebounded 45-29, forced 32 UDC turnovers and made 21 steals.
Ashley Alexander led UDC with 15 points. Jennifer Jones scored 10 points and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds, and Robin Williams chipped in 10 points and nine rebounds for the Firebirds, who fell to 9-12 on the season.
The Lady Cats return home to host West Virginia Wesleyan College on Monday and California University (PA) on Wednesday, February 7. Tip-off for both home games is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. in the Sports Center.
