Lady Cats Win Third Straight Game With 74-58 Home Win Over St. Vincent

The Lady Cat basketball team, ranked 9th in this week's NCAA Division II East Region Poll, made it three straight victories and raised its record to 17-5 on the season with a 74-58 win over Saint Vincent College Thursday night in the Sports Center. Senior forward Melissa Patterson (Alexandria, Pa.) scored 21 points and grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds and sophomore forward Jessica Zapf (Pittsburgh, Pa.) added 13 points and a career-high 17 rebounds to lead Pitt Johnstown.
Head Coach Jodi Gault's team jumped out to a 41-19 halftime lead and increased that lead to 28 points with 16:08 to play in the second half, before going on to the 16-point victory. The Lady Cats dominated Saint Vincent on the boards, out rebounding the Bearcats 54-31, including a 22-8 advantage on the offensive end. Pitt Johnstown converted its 22 offensive rebounds into 16 points. The Lady Cats also connected on 21 of their 27 free-throws.
Zapf, who collected her eighth double-double of the season, also shot 7-10 from the free-throw line. Sophomore guard Allison Krischer (Johnstown, Pa.) added 10 points and a game-high six assists and junior center Samantha Conner (Everett, Pa.) chipped in nine points and seven rebounds. Coach Gault also got production from her bench. Sophomore guard/forward Jami Oaks (South Fork, Pa.) scored eight points, while red-shirt sophomore forward Shannon Reigh (Williamsburg, Pa.) scored six points and red-shirt freshman forward Sarah Priest (Johnstown, Pa.) grabbed four rebounds.
Kristin Myers' 21 points, including four three-point field goals, and six rebounds led the way for Saint Vincent. Sarah Rockwell tallied 12 points and Amanda Clevenger scored 11 points for the Bearcats, who fell to 10-16 on the year.
Pitt Johnstown will host Alderson Broaddus (WV) College Friday night at 6:00 p.m. in the Sports Center, before traveling to East Region #8-ranked Wheeling Jesuit University on Wednesday.
