Women's Soccer Falls in Overtime to Wheeling Jesuit

Head Coach Crystal Dye's Pitt Johnstown women's soccer team battled back and forth with Wheeling Jesuit (WV) University, the WVIAC's top-ranked team, Tuesday afternoon, but a goal by the Cardinals in the third minute of overtime dealt Pitt Johnstown a 4-3 loss. Red-shirt freshman goalkeeper Stephanie Paha (Slickville, Pa.) made 13 saves for Pitt Johnstown, now 6-8-0 overall and 2-5-0 in the WVIAC.
Pitt Johnstown jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Emily Bashore (Millersburg, Pa.) found the back of the net off of Lauren Penn's (Pittsburgh, Pa.) assist in the ninth minute. Wheeling Jesuit responded with back-to-back goals from Hannah Walker in the 17th and 22nd minutes. The Cardinals increased their lead to 3-1 with a goal in the 28th minute, before Pitt Johnstown's Lindsay Plowman (Apollo, Pa.) netted a goal in the 29th minute, and Hailey Coons (Shippensburg, Pa.) scored in the 44th minute to even the score at halftime. The score remained tied, 3-3, until Amanda Belsito scored the game-winner on a blast from the top of the box in the third minute of overtime. Penn finished with a pair of assists for Pitt Johnstown.
Paha, who fell to 4-5-0, faced 16 shots and made 13 saves. Wheeling Jesuit's Ashley Hitz and Lauren Lewicki combined to face 11 Pitt Johnstown shots. Lewicki played the second half and overtime and made one save to earn the win.
With the victory, Wheeling Jesuit improved to 13-3-0 overall and 10-1-0 in the WVIAC.
Pitt Johnstown travels to Salem International (WV) University for a conference match on Thursday, before hosting Concord (WV) University for another WVIAC match on Sunday at noon.
