05/13/2010

Pitt-Johnstown junior designated hitter Zach Martin (Irwin, Pa.) was named 2010 Daktronics, Inc. Division II Baseball First-Team All-Atlantic Region when the teams were released on Thursday. Concord (WV) University's Greyson Schram was named the Player of the Year, and Wheeling Jesuit (WV) University's Noah Mull garnered Pitcher of the Year honors in voting conducted by the region's directors of athletics communication/sports information directors.
All 15 members on the region's First Team advance to the national ballot, with the announcement of the All-America teams slated for May 21. All told, 14 players from the six teams participating in the NCAA II Atlantic Region Tournament are represented as All-Atlantic Region honorees.
Martin, a graduate of Greensburg Central Catholic High School, hit .370 (51-138) and led the Mountain Cats with 43 RBI. His .370 batting average was second on the team, while his 32 runs, 51 hits, eight doubles and 70 total bases all led the team.
Schram recorded the regular-season West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference triple crown after posting a .530 batting average, including 18 home runs, and driving in 77 runs. The senior second baseman helped Concord to a 29-8 overall mark and an appearance in the WVIAC Tournament. He currently ranks among the leaders in several NCAA categories, including batting average (2nd - .508), home runs (6th- 20), RBI (5th – 81) and slugging percentage (1st - .599).
Mull, a product of Wheeling W. Va., capped off a stellar senior season with a 7-1 record and a WVIAC-best 2.09 earned run average. Mull limited opponents to a .194 batting average and ranks second in Division II with 13.02 strikeouts per nine innings. He owns four complete games with a pair of shutouts. The former Wheeling Central HS star has fanned 81 hitters compared to only 39 hits and 21 walks in 56.0 innings pitched.
