Zach Martin Third-Team NBCWA All-Region; Nick Barbera Honorable mention Selection

Pitt-Johnstown senior designated hitter Zach Martin (Irwin, Pa.) was named Third-Team National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association (NCBWA) NCAA Division II All-Atlantic Region, while senior second baseman Nick Barbera (Harrisburg, Pa.) was an honorable mention selection.... Martin, a Second-Team All-WVIAC player in 2011 and a First-Team Daktronics All-Region choice a year ago, led the Mountain Cats in RBI (38) and was second on the team in RBI and slugging percentage (.492) and tied for second with Barbera in homeruns (4).
Barbera, who was tabbed First-Team All-WVIAC this year and Second-Team NCBWA All-Atlantic Region in 2010, hit .331 with a team-best 33 runs scored. Barbera was also second on the team in hits (53), doubles (12) and RBI (35), and third in at-bats (160).
Shepherd (WV) University designated hitter Nathan Minnich and East Stroudsburg University pitcher Jeremy Gigliotti were named Regional "Player of the Year" and "Pitcher of the Year," respectively.
Gigliotti compiled a 6-3 record this spring with a 0.45 ERA that is the top mark among Division II pitchers nationally. He also struck out 73 batters in 60 innings pitched and opposing batters hit a measly .131 against him.
Minnich batted .433 with nine doubles, 14 home runs and 38 RBIs this spring.
Mercyhurst College head coach Joe Spano was named as the regional "Coach of the Year" after leading the Lakers to a 39-10 record and the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championship.
