Lady Cat Volleyball Falls at Fairmont State

Jessica Heidenthal (Clymer, Pa.) had 13 kills, and Tayler Vebares (Red Lion, Pa.) added 10 kills, but it wasn't enough, as Fairmont State (WV) University handed the Lady Cat volleyball team a 25-27, 25-17, 25-19 26-24 WVIAC road loss Wednesday night. With the loss, Pitt-Johnstown fell to 4-10 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
Karen Schmidt (Boswell, Pa.) had eight kills and nine digs, while Beth Kendera (Johnstown, Pa.) collected seven kills, a block solo and two block assists. Kelsey Shanabrook (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) added six kills and two block assists for Pitt-Johnstown.
Nikki Oakes (Pittsburgh, Pa.) had 21 set assists and four service aces, and Kayla Petrilla (Johnstown, Pa.) finished with 18 kills and two aces.
Kelsey Kohler (Johnstown, Pa.) and Cassie Heatherly (Glendale, AZ) led the way for the Lady Cats with 22 and 10 digs, respectively.
With the win, Fairmont state improved to 11-6 overall and 3-1 in the WVIAC.
The Lady Cats wrap-up a stretch of five straight WVIAC road matches at Concord (WV) on Friday, and at Bluefield State (WV) on Saturday. Pitt-Johntown will return home to host a non-conference match against Penn State-Altoona on Thursday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. in the Sports Center.
