Volleyball Falls at Home to Fairmont State

The Lady Cat volleyball team jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but was not able to secure the victory, as Fairmont State (WV) University won the final three games to earn a 3-2 win over Pitt-Johnstown, Wednesday night in the Sports Center. Kristin Irwin (Bellefonte, Pa.) had 16 kills, two block solos and three block assists for the Lady Cats, who fell to 2-11 overall and 0-6 in the WVIAC.
The Lady Cats won the first two games 25-20 and 28-26, but suffered 25-12, 25-23 and 15-10 losses to close out the match.
Along with Irwin, Ashley Hogan (Northern Cambria, Pa.) had 10 kills, three block solos and three block assists, while Taylor Hrescak (Johnstown, Pa.) added eight kills, 10 digs and a pair of service aces. Taylor King (York, Pa.) and Kayla Petrilla (Johnstown, Pa.) collected 21 and 18 assists, respectively. Kimberly Shubra (Penn Run, Pa.) chipped in three aces.
With the win, Fairmont State improved to 14-7 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
The Lady Cats travel to West Liberty (WV) University on Friday for a WVIAC match, before hosting a non-conference match against Mount Aloysius College on Monday at 7 p.m. in the Sports Center.
