Volleyball Falls in Five Sets at Concord

Jessica Heidenthal (Clymer, Pa.) had 15 kills and three block assists, but the Lady Cat volleyball team could not complete the comeback after falling behind two sets to none and suffered a 3-2 loss at WVIAC rival Concord (WV) University, Friday night, Pitt-Johnstown dropped to 4-11 overall and 2-3 in the WVIAC.
After losing the first two sets 25-15 and 25-22, the Lady Cats answered with a pair of 25-23 wins, but Concord took the victory with a 17-15 victory in the fifth set.
Tayler Vebares (Red Lion, Pa.) had nine kills, and Kelsey Shanabrook (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) added eight kills and four block assists.
Beth Kendera (Johnstown, Pa.) led Pitt-Johnstown with eight blocks assists, and Ashley Dirado (Greensburg, Pa.) had three block assists.
The Lady Cats also got a team-high 21 digs from Kelsey Kohler (Johnstown, Pa.) and 10 digs from Cassie Heatherly (Glendale, AZ).
With the win, Concord improved to 8-9 overall and 2-1 in the WVIAC.
The Lady Cats wrap-up a stretch of five straight WVIAC road matches at Bluefield State (WV) on Saturday, before returning home to host a non-conference match against Penn State-Altoona on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Sports Center.
