Volleyball Cruises to Sweep at Bluefield State

After suffering a tough loss in five sets at Concord (WV) University on Friday, the Lady Cat volleyball team rebounded on Saturday with a lopsided 25-9, 25-16, 25-11 sweep at Bluefield State (WV) College. Jessica Heidenthal (Clymer, Pa.) had 10 kills, and Kelsey Shanabrook (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) added seven kills and three block solos to help Pitt-Johnstown improve to 5-11 overalll and 3-3 in the WVIAC.
Beth Kendera (Johnstown, Pa.) had six kills, a block solo and two block assists, while Ashley Dirado (Greensburg, Pa.) had a block solo and three block assists.
Kayla Petrilla (Johnstown, Pa.) led the Lady Cats with 15 set assists, and Nikki Oakes (Pittsburgh, Pa.) chipped in 14 assists and two service aces.
Head Coach Linda Renzi also got a team-high 21 digs from Kelsey Kohler (Johnstown, Pa.) and six digs from Karen Schmidt (Boswell, Pa.).
With the loss, Bluefield State fell to 0-12 overall and 0-5 in the WVIAC.
The Lady Cats will host a non-conference match against Penn State-Altoona on Thursday, before hosting a WVIAC match against Seton Hill University on October 12. Both matches are scheduled to start at 7 p.m. in the Sports Center.
