Volleyball Falls at Home to W.Va. State

Jessica Heidenthal (Clymer, Pa.) had 17 kills, and Karen Schmidt (Boswell, Pa.) added 10 kills and eight digs, but it wasn't enough, as West Virginia State University came into the Sports Center and dealt the Lady Cat volleyball team a 25-23, 25-19, 19-25, 25-22 WVIAC loss on Saturday. Pitt-Johntown dropped to 7-13 overall and 4-5 in the WVIAC.
Tayler Vebares (Red Lion, Pa.) and Kelsey Shanabrook (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) also had eight kills apiece.
Beth Kendera (Johnstown, Pa.) led everyone with five block solos and a block assist, and Ashley Dirado (Greensburg, Pa.) chipped in three block solos and three block assists.
Head Coach Linda Renzi also got 21 set assists and seven digs from Nikki Oakes (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and 18 assists and seven digs from Kayla Petrilla (Johnstown, Pa.).
Kelsey Kohler's (Johnstown, Pa.) 19 digs led the way for the Lady Cats.
With the win, West Virginia State improved to 8-8 overall and 4-3 in the WVIAC.
The Lady Cats host a WVIAC match against Shepherd (WV) University on Tuesday at 7 p.m., before traveling to Mount Aloysius College for a non-conference match on Thursday.
