Volleyball Knocks-Off Shepherd in Sports Center

After splitting the first four sets, the Lady Cat volleyball team came out and earned a 15-13 win in the deciding set five to secure a 3-2 WVIAC victory over Shepherd (WV) University, Tuesday night in the Sports Center. Jessica Heidenthal (Clymer, Pa.) had a game-high 19 kills to lead Pitt-Johnstown, now 8-13 overall and 5-5 in conference-play.
Along with her her 19 kills, Heidenthal added six digs, while Karen Schmidt (Boswell, Pa.) collected 12 kills and 18 digs. Kelsey Shanabrook (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) chipped in 10 kills, and Beth Kendera (Johnstown, Pa.) had nine kills. Ashley Dirado (Greensburg, Pa.) ended the evening with six kills, three blocks solos, and eight digs.
Kayla Petrilla (Johnstown, Pa.) finished with 32 set assists and six digs, and Nikki Oakes (Pittsburgh, Pa.) had 20 assists and 11 digs.
Kelsey Kohler (Johnstown, Pa.) led everyone with 26 digs in the win.
With the loss, Shepherd dropped to 13-11 overall and 6-3 in the WVIAC
The Lady Cats travel to Mount Aloysius College for a non-conference match on Thursday, before hosting a WVIAC match against Ohio Valley (WV) University on Friday at 7 p.m. in the Sports Center.
