Volleyball Ends Regular Season With Sweep at Bluefield State

Ashley Hogan (Northern Cambria, Pa.) had 14 kills, three service aces, a block solo and five block assists to lead the Lady Cat volleyball team to a 3-0 WVIAC sweep at Bluefield State (WV) College on Saturday to close out the 2009 regular season. Pitt-Johnstown, which earned the No. 11 seed for this week's WVIAC Tournament, is 11-16 overall and 4-10 in the WVIAC.
The Lady Cats cruised to a 25-21, 25-8, 25-5 sweep over Bluefield State.
Along with Hogan, Kristin Irwin (Bellefonte, Pa.) and Nicole Houser (Penn Run, Pa.) each had nine kills, while Taylor Hrescak (Johnstown, Pa.) added six kills, two aces and eight digs.
Taylor King's (York, Pa.) 36 set assists and 12 digs paced Pitt-Johnstown. Lauren Pennewill (Dallastown, Pa.) also had 12 digs for the Lady Cats.
Bluefield State's season came to an end with a 3-15 overall record and a 1-13 mark in conference play.
The Lady Cats open the 2009 WVIAC Tournament against No. 6-seeded Glenville State on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Charleston Catholic Sports Complex in Charleston, WV. The winner will take on No. 3-seeded Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College in the Quarterfinals on Thursday at 7 p.m.
