Volleyball Defeats Fairmont State in Sports Center

It took five games, but the Lady Cat volleyball team earned a 3-2 non-conference victory over Fairmont State (WV) University with a 15-13 win in game five, Thursday night in the Sports Center. Taylor Hrescak (Johnstown, Pa.) had 19 kills to help Pitt-Johnstown improve to 17-10.
The Lady Cats won the first two games 27-25 and 28-26, but the Falcons answered with 25-19 and 26-24 victories in the next two games. However, Pitt-Johnstown secured the match with a 15-13 win in game five.
Along with Hrescak, Kristin Irwin (Bellefonte, Pa.) had 11 kills and two block assists, and Kayla Lape (Fishertown, Pa.) added seven kills and three block assists. Head coach Linda Renzi also got seven kills from Kelly Miller (Stoystown, Pa.) and six block assists from Nicole Houser (Penn Run, Pa.). Taylor King (York, Pa.) (21 assists) and Merissa Larrew (Irwin, Pa.) combined for 40 set assists, while Abby Gearhart (Elton, Pa.) and Katie Shadron (Ligonier, Pa.) paced the Lady Cats with 32 and 31 digs, respectively.
With the loss, Fairmont State dropped to 8-18 on the season.
Pitt-Johnstown hosts a non-conference match against Mount Aloysius College on Monday and a WVIAC match against Concord (WV) University on Friday, October 24. Both matches will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Sports Center. The Lady Cats will then celebrate Senior Night against Bluefield State (WV) College on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sports Center.
