Volleyball Earns Sweep Over Bluefield State on Senior Night

Kristin Irwin (Bellefonte, Pa.) collected 12 kills and five block assists to lead the Lady Cat volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep over Bluefield State (WV) College on Senior Night, Saturday in the Sports Center. Pitt-Johnstown made it four straight wins and improved to 20-10 overall and 9-4 in the WVIAC.
The Lady Cats swept Bluefield State 25-11, 25-17 and 25-12.
Along with Irwin, Taylor Hrescak (Johnstown, Pa.) had seven kills and 11 digs, while Kelly Miller (Stoystown, Pa.) added seven kills. Merissa Larrew (Irwin, Pa.) had a team-high 23 assists, and Katie Shadron (Ligonier, Pa.) had 28 digs. Taylor King (York, Pa.) chipped in 12 assists, and Abby Gearhart (Elton, Pa.) had nine digs in the victory.
With the loss, Bluefield State fell to 3-15 overall and 1-10 in the WVIAC.
Prior to match, the Lady Cats recognized this year's seniors Julie Humble (Punxsutawney, Pa.), Kayla Lape (Fishertown, Pa.), Merissa Larrew and Katie Shadron.
Pitt-Johnstown wraps up the 2008 regular season at West Virginia State (WV) University on Friday and at the University of Charleston (WV) on Saturday.
