Volleyball Bounced From WVIAC Tournament By Top-Seeded WV State

After sweeping #9-seeded Shepherd (WV) University to open the 2008 WVIAC Volleyball Tournament at the Catholic Sports Complex in Charleston, WV on Thursday, the #8-seeded Lady Cats were swept by top-seeded West Virginia State University in the quarterfinals. Kristin Irwin (Bellefonte, Pa.) had six kills and two block assists to lead the Lady Cats, who ended the season with a 21-13 overall record.
The Yellow Jackets swept Pitt Johnstown 25-15, 25-20 and 25-17.
Along with Irwin, a Second Team All-WVIAC Volleyball selection, Taylor Hrescak (Johnstown, Pa.) and Kelly Miller (Stoystown, Pa.) each had four kills, while Merissa Larrew (Irwin, Pa.) and Taylor King (York, Pa.) paced the team with 13 and five service aces, respectively. Katie Shadron (Ligonier, Pa.), an Honorable Mention All-WVIAC choice, had seven digs, and Abby Gearhart (Elton, Pa.) chipped in five digs for head coach Linda Renzi's Lady Cats.
With the victory, West Virginia State improved to 24-3.
