Men's Soccer Wins WVIAC Team Sportsmanship Award

Head Coach Eric Kinsey's Mountain Cat men's soccer team garnered the inaugural WVIAC Team Sportsmanship Award for the 2008 fall sports. The award, was proposed by the league's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) last summer and was selected by head coaches and game officials from each team sport. Charleston (women's soccer), Pitt-Johnstown (men's soccer), Seton Hill (football), and Wheeling Jesuit (volleyball) are the first winners. All four squads paired sportsmanship with success on the field during the fall. The Wheeling Jesuit volleyball squad posted a 30-10 record, while reaching the NCAA Atlantic Region finals and winning the WVIAC Tournament. Seton Hill's football team established a school record for victories with a 10-3 mark and reached the second round of the NCAA post-season. The Charleston women's soccer team and Pitt-Johnstown men's soccer squad each finished in the top half of the WVIAC standings and qualified for the six-team conference tournament. The Mountain Cats, who ended the year with a 10-9-1 overall record and a 5-4-1 conference record, advanced to the WVIAC Tournament Semifinals.
Each program will be awarded with a traveling "WVIAC Sportsmanship Champion" banner to display for one year. Sportsmanship champions will be recognized throughout the remainder of the academic year in all of the league's team sports.
