Three Mountain Cats Earn Spots on All-WVIAC Soccer Teams

Senior forward Jason Swope (Indiana, Pa.) garnered first team honors to lead three Mountain Cats who earned spots on 2008 All-WVIAC Men's Soccer Teams. Junior goalkeeper Craig Neff (Elizabethtown, Pa.) was a second team selection, while senior midfielder Vince Spillane (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was an honorable mention choice... WVIAC Tournament champion Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College claimed two of the top three honors for the 2008 league men's soccer season. Battler head coach Dan Kelly was honored by his peers as Coach of the Year, while rookie midfielder Chris Doran was named the Freshman of the Year. West Virginia Wesleyan College's Anthony Peters grabbed Player of the Year honors after leading the 'Cats to the conference regular season title.
Swope was selected to the All-Conference first team after leading the Mountain Cats with 26 points on team-highs of 11 goals and four assists. Swope ranks 77th in NCAA Division II in goals per game (.55) and 81st in points per game (1.35).
Neff posted a 9-9-1 overall record and a 1.29 goals-against average to earn a place on the second team. Neff surrendered 25 goals and made 89 saves in 2008. Nationally, Neff ranks 49th in save percentage (.781), 55th in saves per game (4.68) and 67th in goals-against-average (1.29).
Spillane, an honorable mention choice, tallied five points on one goal and three assists.
West Virginia Wesleyan led the way with five first team selections on the All-WVIAC squad. Davis & Elkins (WV) College had three picks, while Alderson-Broaddus and Wheeling Jesuit (WV) University had two each.
