#6 Wrestlers Defeat #11 Findlay, 22-16, on Alumni Night

02/05/2005

Head Coach Pat Pecora and the #6-ranked Mountain Cat wrestling team welcomed back it's Alumni, then went out and defeated #11-ranked University of Findlay (OH), 22-16 Saturday night in the Sports Center. However, it wasn't easy. With Pitt Johnstown leading 19-16 going into the heavyweight match, junior National Qualifier Zach Majocha (Upper Burrell, Pa./Burrell H.S.) needed a win to secure the victory for the Mountain Cats. Like he's done several times already this season, Majocha sealed the deal with a 3-2 win over Justin Tazzi to give Pitt Johnstown a 22-16 victory.
Junior two-time National Qualifier and #8-ranked Ryon Mazzocco (125 lbs.) (Cresson,Pa./Penn Cambria H.S.) got the Mountain Cats off to a 4-0 lead with a 12-0 major decision over Mitch Aring to start the match. However, Findlay immediately tied the match when NCAA #4 Andy Uhl scored a 10-2 major decision over red-shirt freshman Tom Brambley (Breezewood, Pa./Everett H.S.) at 133 lbs. A forfeit win by junior All-American Thad Benton (Claysburg, Pa./Claysburg-Kimmel H.S.) at 141 lbs. put Pitt Johnstown up 10-4, but the Roughnecks battled back to tie the score at 10-10 with a pair of decision victories. Mountain Cat senior All-American and #3-ranked Mark Glova (St. Benedict, Pa./Cambria Heights H.S.) put Pitt Johnstown in the lead for good with a 6-1 win over Adam Morris at 165 lbs. Red-shirt freshman Albert Miles (184 lbs.) (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon McMillan H.S.) increased the lead to 19-10 with a fall over Joe Patterson at 1:42. Once again, Findlay clawed its way back into the match with decision victories at 184 lbs. and 197 lbs. but Majocha's win at heavyweight preserved another Moutnain Cat victory. Pitt Johnstown improved to 17-5 on the season, while Findlay fell to 2-10.
The Mountain Cats travel to Slippery Rock University on Thursday, before returning home to celebrate Senior Night against #7-ranked Ashland (OH) University on Saturday, February 12 at 7:00 p.m. in the Sports Center.
