Sarbo Finishes as National Runner-up at 149 lbs.; Ty Morrison, Vance End National Tournament as All-Americans

Sarbo, MattMorrison, TyVance, IsaiahRed-shirt junior Matt Sarbo reached the title match at 149 lbs., before finishing as a national runner-up, while true freshman Ty Morrison (174 lbs.) and red-shirt senior Isaiah Vance (285 lbs.) joined him on the podium as All-Americans at the 2026 NCAA Division II Men's Wrestling National Championships at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls, SD.
 
Six Mountain Cats qualified and wrestled in the tournament to help Pitt-Johnstown finish 13th in the 49-team field with 37.0 points.
 
Morrison placed fourth after suffering a loss in the third-place match in his first appearance in the tournament, and Vance followed up his fifth and runner-up finishes with an eight-place showing in 2026 after being forced to medical forfeit his final two matches.
 
After two scoreless periods in the title bout, Thompson got an escape, then took down fourth-seeded Sarbo :30 into the third period to climb out to a 4-0 lead.  Thompson went on to ride out Sarbo the final 1:32 to pick get an extra point for riding time and claim the championship with a 5-0 victory.
 
Trent Hoover (165 lbs.) (2-2) and No. 8 Brad Morrison (197) (1-2) both reached the second round of the consolations on Friday before being eliminated.  True freshman Brady Baker (133 lbs.) was 0-2 on Friday.
 
Nebraska-Kearney (83.0 points) held off second-place Wisconsin-Parkside (78.0 points) to claim the 2026 team national championship.  McKendree (76.5 points), Central Oklahoma (76.0), and Lander (64.5 points) rounded out the top-5.
 
149 lbs. – Fourth-seeded Matt Sarbo cruised into the semifinals where he took on top-seeded Chris Donathan (Grand Valley State).  Sarbo got a quick first-period take down then pinned Donathan at 2:42 to get his shot at a national title against Thompson.  Sarbo earned a 16-5 major decision first round win over Quincy's No. 13 Sabian Russell to set up a meeting with fifth-seeded Rudy Lopez (Northern State) in the quarterfinals.  Sarbo jumped out to a 4-1 second period lead, then used a take down in the third period to defeat Lopez, 7-3. To get into the semis.
 
174 lbs. – True freshman and seventh-seeded Ty Morrison charged back from an opening round loss with two straight wins to reach Saturday's third round of the consolations and lock up All-America honors.  Morrison picked up a, 2-0, win over No. 16 Cole Ritter (Maryville), then had a rematch with first round opponent No. 10 Kydyn Lima (Sa Francisco State) in the consolation semifinals where he avenged the loss with a 4-1 win to reach the third-place match.  St. Cloud State's No. 15 Bryce Dagel jumped out to a 5-1 second-period advantage and earned a 9-4 win, giving Morrison a fourth-place finish.  After coming up just short in an 8-6 first round loss to Lima he took on No. 2 Coy Gunderson (Augustana) in the first round of the consolations.  Morrison responded in a big way with a take down as time ran out in the third period to upset Gunderson, 8-5, then held off Central Missouri's Anthony Erickson, 1-0, in the second round of the consolations.
 
285 lbs. – Two-time All-American and sixth-seeded Isaiah Vance bounced back from a quarterfinals loss to place eighth.  Following a win in the second round of the consolations on Friday, Vance was forced to medical forfeit in the third round of the consolations and the seventh-place match. Vance jumped out to a 10-0 lead and went on to defeat No. 11 Isaac Sheeren, 11-6, to start the tournament and reach the quarterfinals. However, No. 3 Zach Glazier defeated Vance, 5-0, sending him to the second round of the consolations.  Vance answered with an 8-0 major decision win over Chadron State's Eli Reese to guarantee him his third All-America honor.
 
165 lbs. – Red-shirt freshman Trent Hoover won a 9-3 decision over Glenville State's Leo Hess in a preliminary match, but fell to seventh-seeded Gage Bernall (Central Missouri), 8-3, in the first round.  Hoover then won a 4-1 decision over No. 15 Bryce Dauphin (Central Oklahoma), but was eliminated with a 4-2 loss to No. 8 Brody Hemauer (Wisconsin-Parkside) in the second round of the consolations.
 
197 lbs. – Eighth-seeded Brad Morrison used three back points and a point for riding time as time expired to reach the quarterfinals with a 6-3 opening round win over No. 9 Ben Tonnessen (Adams State).  However, No. 1-seeded Max Ramberg dealt Morrison at 14-5 major decision loss sending him to the second round of the consolations, where Morrison lost a 10-4 decision to Maryville's Jeremiah Larson.
 
133 lbs. – Earning a spot in the national tournament as a true freshman, Brady Baker suffered a 5-1 loss to West Liberty's No. 9-seeded James Armstrong in a preliminary match, before being eliminated with a 12-1 setback to No. 11 Logan Robinson (UNC-Pembroke) in a consolation preliminary match.
