Pitt-Johnstown's woman's volleyball team recovered from their loss at West Chester University on Friday by dominating Cheyney University, 25-6, 25-10, 25-17, Saturday afternoon in Cheyney. The Lady Cats got 10 kills from
Cambria Wierman to improve to a 9-5 overall, and 5-4 in the PSAC East.
The Lady Cats controlled the first two sets, maintaining a strong lead against the Lady Wolves and denying any efforts of a comeback. By the third set, Cheyney improved their game and presented the Lady Cats with more of a challenge. However, Pitt-Johnstown was not phased, cruised to the sweep with a 25-17 win.
Wierman led Pitt-Johnstown with ten kills and eight service assists, while
Madeline George contributed nine kills, and Kendall Mahoney added seven kills.
Devan Orr led the way ten set assists, and
Nikki Oakes collected seven assists for the Lady Cats. In addition, Orr had 15 digs, and
Nicole Curran followed with six digs.
Despite Breanna Joseph's five kills, the Lady Wolves fell to 1-13 overall, and 0-8 in the PSAC.
Pitt-Johnstown travels to Slippery Rock University for two matches in the 2014 PSAC Crossover on Friday, then to Edinboro University for two more crossover games on Saturday. The Lady Cats will play their next home game on October 17 against Millersville in the Sports Center.
