Alderson-Broaddus (W.Va.) College scored a pair of goals in the first 16 minutes and went on to defeat the Mountain Cats, 4-2, in Wednesday's non-conference match in Philippi, W.Va.Â
Mike Mercea and
Colin Michalski notched the goals for Pitt-Johnstown, now 1-9-0 on the year.
Marco Profumo gave the Battlers a 1-0 lead three minutes in, before Zach Partyka made it 2-0 with an unassisted goal in the 16th minute.
The Mountain Cats answered five minutes later to narrow it to 2-1 at the half when Mercea found the back of the net.
However, Alderson-Broaddus got another goal from Partyka in the 60th minute and one from Luiz Cartagena at the 79-minute mark to extend it to 4-2.
Pitt-Johnstown tried to get back in it after Michalski scored in the 86th minute, but it was too late, and the Battlers held on for the 4-2 victory.
Nate Kleya made four saves but allowed all four goals in net for the Mountain Cats, who were able to notch a pair of goals on just four shots.Â
Tim Ofman played the final seven minutes in goal for Pitt-Johnstown and made two saves. Ricard Lao picked-up the win for the Battlers, now 4-7-0, after giving up two goals.
Pitt-Johnstown travels to PSAC matches at Seton Hill on Saturday and Mercyhurst on Tuesday, before returning home to host a conference match against Gannon on October 18 at 4 p.m.
