Jasmine Harper scored 27 points to lead five Lady Cats who scored in double figures and Pitt-Johnstown knocked down 14 3-pointers in a 95-84 victory over Clarion University in Wednesday's PSAC-opener in the Sports Center. Pitt-Johnstown improved to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in conference-play.

The Lady Cats, got 14 first half points from
Jasmine Harper, and connected on seven 3-pointers in the first 13 minutes to build a 15 first half advantage.

Back-to-back 3-pointers from
Olivia Rizzo and
Agnese Aramina to open the game, followed by one from
Leah Hansen at 12:33 gave Pitt-Johnstown a 21-13 lead.

The Lady Cats then got a 3-pointer from
Nicole Carman to push it out to 14, before a
Dominique Smith free-throw made it 34-19 with 7:10 remaining in the half.

Clarion the got four straight points from Hannah Heeter to ignite a13-4 run that narrowed it to four on consecutive baskets from Delrika Jones-Carey.

However, Pitt-Johnstown, which shot 57% for the game, recovered to outscore the Golden Eagles 12-3 the rest of the way, including another 3-pointer from Carman as time expired, to take a 50-35 halftime lead.

Rizzo's third 3-pointer of the evening four minutes into the second half pushed the Pitt-Johnstown lead to 59-43.

The Golden Eagles clawed back to within eight at 64-56 on Heeter's basket in the paint with 12:30 to play, but that was as close as Clarion would get.

Harper's basket at 8:26 made it a 14-point advantage, and a 3-pointer from Smith four minutes later gave the Lady Cats their largest lead of the night at 90-73.

Harper scored 27 points, while Rizzo hit four 3-pointers and finished with 17 points for the Lady Cats. Smith had 13 points and six assists, and Carman and
Kelsey Sleighter each collected 10 points. Carman also pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.

Pitt-Johnstown shot 56.9% on 37-65 shooting, including 58.1% (14-29) from behind the 3-point line. The Lady Cats were also 7-12 from the free-throw line. Clarion shot 54.7% (35-64) and 3-4 from 3-point range.

Tania Holmes poured in a game-high 30 points, and Heeter chipped-in 22 points and six rebounds to pace the Golden Eagles, who dropped to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the PSAC.

The Lady Cats begin a stretch of four consecutive road games with a PSAC contest at Slippery Rock on Saturday. Pitt-Johnstown will return home on December 6 to host a PSAC doubleheader with the Mountain Cats against Seton Hill. The Lady Cats will tip-off at 1 p.m. in the Sports Center, with the men's game to follow at 3 p.m.Â
