Urbana (OH) University erased a 15-point second half deficit to force overtime, but the Lady Cats recovered and dominated in the extra period to extend their winning streak to five games with a 97-85 non-conference victory.
Kelsey Sleighter had a game-high 28 points, and
Jasmine Harper added 27 points and 19 rebounds to help Pitt-Johnstown improve to 5-1.
In addition,
Nicole Carman scored 22 points and is now four points shy of becoming Pitt-Johnstown's 34
th 1,000-point scorer. In addition, she grabbed 11 rebounds and is currently rank 21
st on the Lady Cat All-time Rebounding List with 549.
Urbana scored the first eight points of the game and built a 12-3 lead five minutes in on Jeni Jordan's lay-up.
A 3-pointer from Carman and a fast break basket by
Agnese Aramina quickly got the Lady Cats back to within four, but the Blue Knights pushed it back out to eight at 22-14 with 7:12 to go.
Pitt-Johnstown bounced back and outscored Urbana 29-17 the rest of the way to take a four-point halftime lead.
Another 3-pointer from Carman tied it at 22, before the Lady Cats took their first lead of the night on Sleighter's basket at 5:22.
Pitt-Johnstown extended its lead to four on three occasions, but the Blue Knights got a free-throw from Kate Fancisico with just over a minute left to knot it at 37.
However, Sleighter's fourth of six 3-pointers on the night as time expired put the Lady Cats in front 43-39 at the break.
Harper scored inside the paint, and Sleighter hit a 3-pointer to make it 55-47 five minutes in to the second half.
Olivia Rizzo's 3-pointer midway through the half built the lead to 69-54.
Urbana stormed back with a 20-5 run the rest of the way to tie and force overtime on Stephanie Davis' lay-up with 25 seconds left. Pitt-Johnstown had a chance to win it in regulation, but Harper's lay-up was blocked by Francisco and time ran out.
In the extra period, the Lady Cats opened up an 80-75 lead Harper's lay-up and free-throw and never looked back in the 12-point win.
Along with the three 20-plus point scorers, Pitt-Johnstown also got 10 points, five rebounds and five assists from Rizzo, and five points and seven assists from
Dominique Smith.
The Lady Cats shot just 38% (30-79) from the field, but made 13 3-pointers and connected on n24-27 from the free-throw line. Urbana shot 41% (35-86), but hit just 5-24 from behind the 3-point line and jut 10-18 from the charity stripe.
Francisco finished with 23 points, and Tori Purk had 14 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Blue Knights, who fell to 0-5 on the year.
The Lady Cats wrap-up a stretch of four consecutive road games with a PSAC game at California University (PA) on Wednesday, before returning home to host a PSAC doubleheader with the Mountain Cats against Seton Hill on Saturday. The Lady Cats will tip-off at 1 p.m. in the Sports Center, with the men's game to follow at 3 p.m.
