The Pitt-Johnstown women's soccer team and the Bald Eagles of Lock Haven University ended their PSAC match with a tied score of 1-1, after a battle between both teams resulted in double overtime, Saturday afternoon in Johnstown. A goal late in the second half from
Rachel Fleming gave Pitt-Johnstown their first ever result in the PSAC since joining in 2013. The Lady Cats are now 0-11-1 overall and 0-11-1 in conference-play.
Lock Haven maintained possession of the ball for a majority of the first half sending 15 shots to Pitt-Johnstown keeper
Leigh Appolonia, but was unable to find the back of the net as Appolonia recorded 11 saves leading into halftime.
Nearing the end of what remained a scoreless game, Sarah Bonelli broke the silence in the 79
th minute giving the Bald Eagles a 1-0 lead after finishing a through ball from Felicia Cramer.
Pitt-Johnstown answered back less than a minute later with a goal from
Rachel Fleming, who tied scoring at 1-1. Fleming rebounded a shot from
Kaitlyn Eckley off of Lock Haven's keeper, and was able to keep the Lady Cats alive in play at the end of regulation time.
After playing double overtime, neither team was able to jump ahead ending the game in a tie with 1-1 as the final score.
Appolonia recorded a total of 19 saves after facing 41 shots from the Bald Eagles.
Lock Haven keeper Kate Gable faced 14 shots from the Lady Cats while making six saves. The Bald Eagles are now 2-9-1 overall and 2-8-1 in the PSAC.
The Lady Cats host a non-conference match against Davis & Elkins (WV) College on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m., before traveling to Bloomsburg University on October 17 for a PSAC match. Pitt-Johnstown then returns home to host a conference match against California University (PA) on October 21 at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.
