Volleyball Sweeps Point Park in Non-Conference-Play

2732Cambria Wierman had eight kills and nine digs, and Marissa Erminio added seven kills to lead a balanced Pitt-Johnstown attack to a 25-23, 25-19, 25-22 non-conference volleyball sweep over Point Park University, Tuesday night in the Sports Center.  Pitt-Johnstown improved to 22-3 on the season.
 
Point Park took advantage of three straight Pitt-Johnstown errors to open-up an 8-4 lead to start the match.  The Lady Cats answered with a 8-2 run to go in front 12-10 on Delaney Roman's service ace and Wierman's kill.  Pitt-Johnstown increased it 18-13 on two more Wierman kills, before the Pioneers battled back to cut it to 22-21.  However, two Madeline George kills and a Point Park service gave Pitt-Johnstown the 25-23 win.
 
In a tight second set, the Lady Cats were able to go up 20-17 on another kill from George and two more Pioneers' errors, but kills from Emily Meng and Shiloh Simonson narrowed Point Park's gap to one.  That was as close s it would get, as Pitt-Johnstown scored the final five points to close out the 25-19 victory.
 
The Lady Cats used a kill from Kendall Mohony and a service error from Larissa Swank to climb out to an early 6-2 lead in the third set.  Kills by Isabela Vavrek and Nikki Inquartano helped the Pioneers knot it at eight, before Point Park regained the lead 12-10 on two straight Pitt-Johnstown errors.  The Pioneers then held a 22-19 advantage, but Pitt-Johnstown outscored Point Park 6-0 to seal the sweep on Erminio's seventh kill of the match.
 
Along with Wierman and Erminio, George finished with six kills and four blocks, while Mahony had four kills and three blocks, and Swank and four kills and a pair of blocks for Pitt-Johnstown.
 
Allison Mondorff collected 15 set assists and seven digs, and Jessica Dillon tallied 11 assists.  The Lady Cats also got 26 digs from Devan Orr, and eight digs and three assists from Roman.
 
Megan Branchick and Vavrek each had seven kills to lead the Pioneers, who slipped to 19-23 on the year.
 
The Lady Cats travel to PSAC matches at Shippensburg on Friday, Millersville on Saturday, and Lock Haven on Tuesday, before returning home to the Sports Center to host their final two regular season matches against Kutztown on November 6 and East Stroudsburg on November 7.
