Box Score
In a battled of the top two teams in the PSAC Eastern Division, Pitt-Johnstown came out strong and rolled over Shippensburg University, 25-13, 25-19, and 25-12 behind a match-high 13 kills and 10 digs from
Cambria Wierman. Pitt-Johnstown improved to 12-2 and remained unbeaten in the PSAC at 6-0.
Â
In the opening set, Wierman and
Marissa Erminio combined for 11 kills as Pitt-Johnstown broke a 6-6 tie with a 19-7 run on its way to the 25-13 win. Consecutive kills from Erminio made it 13-7, before two of Wierman's six first set kills closed out the convincing win.
Â
The Lady Cats kept the momentum to start the second set and ran out to a 5-1 lead on
Maura Brehl's kill, before Shippensburg clawed back to tie it at six on Morgan DeFloria's kill. However, Pitt-Johnstown outscored the Raiders 8-2 to rebuild the lead to 14-8 on kills from Erminio, Brehl, and Wierman and a Shippensburg ball handling error. The Lady Cats never let the Raiders get any closer than three the rest of the way. Pitt-Johnstown matched its earlier six-point lead on a Wierman service ace, then pushed it out to seven at 22-15 on a
Madeline George kill and a Shippensburg attack error, before going on the 25-19 victory.
Â
Pitt-Johnstown looked to close out the Raiders in straight sets. And that's exactly what the Lady Cats did. Pitt-Johnstown got three kills apiece from
Kendall Mahony and Wierman to storm out to a 17-5 lead and never looked back. Another kill from Mahony extended it to 23-10, and followed with a service ace on match point to give Pitt-Johnstown the sweep.
Â
Wierman's 13 kills led the way for the Lady Cats, while Erminio had nine kills, and Mahony chipped in eight kills. Brehl collected kills and two blocks, and George tallied for kills and five blocks.
Â
Pitt-Johnstown also got 20 set assists and 10 digs from
Allison Mondorff, and 13 assists from
Jessica Dillon.Â
Devan Orr and
Delaney Roman had 27 and 12 digs, respectively for the Lady Cats.
Â
Annie Goerl's 10 kills and 11 digs led the way for the Raiders, who slipped to 12-5 overall and 3-3 in the PSAC East.
Â
The Lady Cats will host a PSAC match against Lock Haven University on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Sports Center, before traveling to conference matches at East Stroudsburg University and Kutztown University on Friday and Saturday.Â
