Mahony's 16 Kills Lead Lady Cats to Sweep at Shippensburg

3001Kendall Mahony had a match-high 16 kills, and Marissa Erminio added 13 kills to help the Pitt-Johnstown volleyball team complete the season sweep over Shippensburg University with a 25-9, 25-22, 25-16 PSAC victory, Friday night in Shippensburg.  The Lady Cats improved to 23-3 overall and 14-1 in the PSAC Eastern Division.
 
Pitt-Johnstown started the match fast and went on to a dominating 25-9 win in the opening set.  Erminio, Mahony, and Cambria Wierman combined for eight kills to help the Lady Cats built a 15-4.  Pitt-Johnstown increased it to 21-9 on back-to-back kills from Wierman and Larissa Swank, before Wierman's service closed out the 16-point victory.
 
In a much tighter second set, Pitt-Johnstown broke a 10-10 tie with a 5-1 run, capped by Mahony's kills and a Shippensburg error, but the Raiders came back to knot it at 17 on Taylor Gottshall's kills, flowed by a Pitt-Johnstown error.  Two straight kills from Wierman and another kill from Mahony rebuilt the Lady Cat lead to 21-17.  Shippensburg clawed back again to tie it at 21, but Pitt-Johnstown got a kill from Erminio to hold off the Raiders 25-22 and take a commanding 2-sets-to-none lead.
 
Kills from Madeline George and Wierman gave the Lady Cats a 13-7 lead in the third set, before consecutive kills from Mahony pushed it out to 15-8.  Shippensburg narrowed the gap to 17-15, but Pitt-Johnstown outscored the Raiders 8-1 the rest of the way and closed out the 25-16 victory on Wierman's kill.
 
Along with Mahony and Erminio, Wierman had 11 kills, eight digs, and three aces, while Madeline George chipped-in four kills for the Lady Cats.
 
Allison Mondorff finished with 27 set assists and 11 digs, and Jessica Dillon had 15 assists.  Pitt-Johnstown also got 29 digs from Devan Orr in the sweep.
 
Shippensburg, which slipped to 21-8 overall and 10-6 in the PSAC East, was led by Annie Goerl's nine kills and Gottshall's five kills.
 
The Lady Cats travel to PSAC matches at Millersville on Saturday and at Lock Haven on Tuesday, before hosting their final two regular season home matches against Kutztown on Friday and East Stroudsburg next Saturday.
