Kendall Mahony and
Cambria Wierman each had 16 kills to lead Pitt-Johnstown to a 3-sets-to-1 victory over Ursuline (OH) College in Saturday's final round of the University of Findlay TownPlace Suites Classic.
Devan Orr was namedr the most outstanding libero of the Findlay Classic, and
Kendall Mahony earned a spot on the all tournament team for Pitt-Johnstown, which improved to 5-2.
The Lady Cats took the opening set 25-16, but suffered a 25-21 loss in the second. However, Pitt-Johnstown finished with 25-11 and 25-22 victories to seal the win.
It was all Pitt-Johnstown in the first set. The Lady Cats opened-up 12-7 lead on
Madeline George's kill, before Ursuline pulled to within three at 12-9. Pitt-Johnstown bounced right back with an 11-5 run, closed out by two straight Wierman kills, on its way to the 25-16 win.
Ursuline answered right back. The Arrows raced out to a 9-1 lead on Makayla Windau kill and a Pitt-Johnstown attack error. Ursuline then increased to double digits at 18-8. The Lady Cats stormed back with a 10-2 run, highlighted by four service aces and three Wierman kills, to make it 20-18, but the Arrows were able to hold on to even the match with a 25-21 victory.
Pitt-Johnstown outscored Ursuline 18-4 to break open a 7-7 tie on its way to the 25-11 third set win. Mahony's kill put the Lady Cats up 15-9, and another kill from Wierman build it to double digits at 19-9, and Pitt-Johnstown coasted to the lopsided win.
The Arrows were able to open-up a 13-8 advantage in the third set, but the Lady Cats clawed back knot it at 19, before
Marissa Erminio's kill put Pitt-Johnstown in front, 21-20. The Lady Cats never trailed again and ended the 25-22 win with Wierman's kill and a
Devan Orr service ace.
Mahony finished with 16 kills and three blocks, while Wierman had 16 kills and 11 digs to lead Pitt-Johnstown. Erminio collected nine kills and 17 digs, and
Maura Brehl and George each had five kills.
Jessica Dillon and
Allison Mondorff led the Lady Cats with 21 and 20 set assists, respectively, and Orr had a team-high 19 digs in the victory.
Emily Adkinson, Elise Harcek, and Courtney Burns all had eight kills for Ursuline, which dropped to 3-6 on the season.
The Lady Cats will make their 2015 home debut against West Liberty (WV) University on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Sports Center, before traveling to the 2015 PSAC Crossover at Gannon and Mercyhurst on Friday and Saturday.
