Kendall Mahony had a career-high 19 kills and three blocks, but it wasn't enough, as Hillsdale (MI) College dealt the Pitt-Johnstown volleyball team a 3-sets-to-1 setback in Saturday's third round of the University of Findlay TownPlace Suites Classic. Pitt-Johnstown dropped its second straight match and slipped to 4-2.

After falling behind with 25-19 and 27-25 losses, Pitt-Johnstown earned a 25-22 win in the third set to keep the match going. However, Hillsdale closed it out with a 25-15 win in the fourth set.

Mahony's kill midway through the first set put Pitt-Johnstown in front 14-12. Hillsdale followed by scoring six of the next eight points to build an 18-16 advantage on Emily Wolfert's kill. The Lady Cats then got a kill from
Maura Brehl to cut it to one, but the Chargers closed out the set on a 7-2 run and earn a 25-19 win.

The Lady Cats took advantage of three Hillsdale attack errors and a Mahony kill to climb out to a 4-1 lead to start the second set. The Chargers kept it close and tied it seven times, before taking their first lead of the set at 18-17 on a Pitt-Johnstown error and a Kyra Rodi kill. After a Lady Cat timeout, Pitt-Johnstown came back to regain the lead, 22-21, on
Madeline George's kill, then had to overcome two set points to knot it at 24. However, a bad by set by Mahony and an attack error by
Marissa Erminio gave Hillsdale the 27-25 victory.

Pitt-Johnstown got a kill from
Cambria Wierman to start the third set with a 5-2 lead. Hillsdale tied it with three straight points, but the Lady Cats regained the lead and never gave it up. Holding a 14-12 advantage, Pitt-Johnstown used an 8-1 run, capped by Mahony's service ace and a Hillsdale attack error, to extend it to 22-13. The Chargers answered with an 8-1 run of its own to get to within two at 23-21, but
Madeline George's kill gave Pitt-Johnstown a 25-22 win and kept the Lady Cats in the match.

In the fourth set, the Chargers outscored Pitt-Johnstown 10-3 to build a 15-8 lead. The Lady Cats scored the next two to narrow the gap to five, but Hillsdale pushed it out to 21-10 and coasted to the 25-15 victory.

Along with Mahony, Pitt-Johnstown got nine kills from George and eight kills apiece from Brehl and Erminio.Â
Cambria Wierman also collected six kills and six digs in the loss for the Lady Cats.

Jessica Dillon (23 assists) and
Allison Mondorff (22 assists) combined for 45 set assists, while
Devan Orr and
Delaney Roman had 13 digs each to pace Pitt-Johnstown.

Hailee Boom tallied 12 kills, and Paige Vanderwall and Wolfert both had 10 kills for Hillsdale, which improved to 5-1 on the year.
