Tyler Whitehead netted the game winning goal in overtime to give Shippensburg a 2-1 PSAC win over Pitt-Johnstown, Tuesday afternoon in Shippensburg. The Mountain Cats fell to 0-5-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the conference.
Shippensburg quickly claimed the lead with a goal from Jeff Ballard less than 10 minutes into play. Ballard sent the ball past Mountain Cat keeper
Nate Kleya off of a cross from Robert Furfaro, giving the Raiders a 1-0 lead at the end of the first half.
The duration of the second half remained a battle between both teams, but Pitt-Johnstown fought back as the clock continued to wind down.
Matt Kinney kept the Mountain Cats alive with just over two minutes left in regulation time, after tipping the ball past Shippensburg keeper Evan Raimist to tie the game at 1-1.
However, Tyler Whitehead closed out the game for the Raiders in overtime scoring the winning goal in the 100
th minute.
Kleya suffered the loss in goal for Pitt-Johnstown after facing 20 shots and making six saves against the Raiders.
Raimist recorded the win for Shippensburg by making one save off of 10 shots from the Mountain Cats, improving their record to 3-2-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the PSAC.
The Mountain Cats begin a stretch of five consecutive home matches this Saturday at 1 p.m. with a non-conference match against Wheeling Jesuit (WV) University, followed by a PSAC match against Millersville University on Wednesday at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field. Â Â
