Marissa Erminio had a match-high 16 kills and seven digs and
Cambria Wierman added 13 kills and eight digs to lead Pitt-Johnstown to a 3-sets-to-1 victory over West Liberty (WV) University in Tuesday's volleyball home opener in the Sports Center. The Lady Cats improved to 6-2 on the year.

Pitt-Johnstown defeated West Liberty 25-18, 23-25, 25-13, 25-21.

West Liberty kept the first set close early, but Pitt-Johnstown erased an early one-point deficit with a 9-2 run to go in front 15-9 on a
Kendall Mahony kill and a Hilltopper attack error. A Lady Cat service error got West Liberty back to with four, before Pitt-Johnstown went on to claim the first set, 28-18 on Wierman's kill.

In the second set, two more kills from Wierman put the Lady Cats up 3-0, but West Liberty answered with a 9-1 run of its own, capped by Michaela Hawkins and three consecutive Pitt-Johnstown errors. Amanda Leonard's kill increased the Hilltoppers' lead to 20-12. Pitt-Johnstown stormed by to knot it at 20 on Erminio's kill, but West Liberty was able to hold on for the 25-23 win and even the match at one set apiece.

Pitt-Johnstown answered West Liberty and raced out to a 21-8 advantage on a Devon Orr ace and a pair of kills from Wierman. The Hilltoppers got it down to 22-11, but the Lady Cats never looked back and cruised to the 25-13 victory on
Madeline George's kill.

Just like the third set, Pitt-Johnstown jumped out to a big lead. This time, the Lady Cats opened-up a 12-7 lead on Erminio's kill and a West Liberty bad set. The Hilltoppers battled back to outscore Pitt-Johnstown 9-3 to get to within one, but the Lady Cats used Erminio's ace to push it back out to three at 22-19. Wierman then followed with three straight kills to give Pitt-Johnstown the victory with a 25-21 win.

Along with Erminio and Wierman, Pitt-Johnstown also got 12 kills and six blocks from Mahony, this week's PSAC Eastern Division Player of the Week.Â
Maura Brehl had eight kills, and George chipped-in seven kills.

Allison Mondorff finished with 27 set assists and nine digs, while
Jessica Dillon had 25 assists and six digs.Â
Devan Orr led the way for the Lady Cats with 21 digs.

Stephanie Leonard collected eight kills and Hawkins had seven kills for the Hilltoppers, who fell to 3-6 on the season.

The Lady Cats travel to the 2015 PSAC Crossover at Gannon and Mercyhurst on September 25 and 26, before hosting PSAC matches against Millersville and Shippensburg on October 2 and 3 in the Sports Center.Â
