Johnstown, PA

Box Score
3883Jamie Tabon scored 17 points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds to help Pitt-Johnstown cut a 13-point fourth quarter deficit to five, but 24th-ranked Wheeling Jesuit (WV) University hit free-throws down the stretch to deal the Lady Cats a 67-56 non-conference loss, Wednesday night in the Sports Center.  Pitt-Johnstown has lost three straight and slipped 6-5.

Baskets by Tabon and Olivia McCabe gave Pitt-Johnstown a slim one-point advantage four minutes into the game, but the Cardinals quickly regained the lead on Kylie Frizell's jumper and extended it to 22-15 on a bucket by Mariah Callen to end the first quarter.

Victoria Moreland's 3-pointer early in the second quarter got the Lady Cats to within four, but Callen answered with a 3-pointer for Wheeling Jesuit and Chelsea Richardson connected on 1-of-2 free-throws with 12 seconds left in the half to put the Cardinals in front 33-24 at the break.

Wheeling Jesuit built its lead to as many as 14 on Richardson's lay-up at the 7:50 mark of the third quarter and held a 45-367 lead entering the fourth quarter.

After two Monica Burns' free-throws with 6:33 left to play made it 55-42, Pitt-Johnstown answered with a 10-2 run over the next four minutes to narrow the gap to five on McCabe's basket in the paint.

However, the Cardinals held Pitt-Johnstown to just four points over the final 2:30 and hit 8-of-10 from the free-throw line to secure the 11-point victory.

Along with Tabon's 17 points and 14 rebounds, the Lady Cats also got a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds from McCabe.  Moreland had nine points and three rebounds, while Gabrielle Smith added seven points, three rebounds, and three assists off the bench for Pitt-Johnstown.

The Lady Cats out-rebounded 41-32, and were held to 35.7% (20-56) shooting from the field and 5-24 shooting from 3-point range.  Pitt-Johnstown also 11-13 from the free-throw line.  Wheeling Jesuit ended the night shooting 37.9% (22-58) from the floor, 8-16 from behind the 3-point line and 15-19 from the charity stripe.

Callen hit four 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 18 points, and Frizell chipped-in 13 points and seven rebound for the Cardinals, who improved to 8-1 on the season.
