Brian Schaefer's penalty kick goal with 10 minutes to play broke a 1-1 tie and proved to be the match-winner, as West Chester University slipped past the Mountain Cat men's soccer team, 3-1, in Saturday's PSAC opener at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field. Pitt-Johnstown fell to 0-2-0 overall and 0-1-0 in conference-play.

After a scoreless first half, Schaefer netted his first of two goals when he finished a scramble in the box to put the Golden Rams in front 1-0.

However, Harrison then received a red card for making a desperation save on a West Chester shot with his arm, giving Schaefer the penalty kick in the 80

After Schaefer netted the penalty kick, Miguel Ross tacked on an insurance goal with less than three minutes to play to set the final at 3-1.

Nate Kleya took the loss in goal for the Mountain Cats after allowing all three goals. Kleya also made 11 saves on 24 West Chester shots. James Wood earned the win after giving up one goal and making 1 save on six Pitt-Johnstown shots.
With the win, West Chester improved to 2-0-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the PSAC.
The Mountain Cats host PSAC matches against East Stroudsburg on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field and Shippensburg on September 13 at 4 p.m.
