A.J. Leahey recorded a game-high 34 points, but Pitt-Johnstown fell victim to a game-tying three-pointer at the end of regulation and were defeated by Gannon University, 105-97 in overtime Monday night at the Sports Center in Johnstown.

Isaac Vescovi added 21 points and Dale Clancy produced 16 points for the Mountain Cats, who fell to 9-7 overall, 4-5 in PSAC action

Gannon started the game with 6-0 advantage after three different Golden Knights made layups. Gannon's lead grew to 11-5 at the 15:52 first half mark when Jimmy Berger hit a three pointer, but UPJ started to make a turnaround soon after.

Pitt-Johnstown scored 10 of the next 13 points. Clancy pitched in with five of those points to earn the Mountain Cats their first lead, 15-14 with 12:51 left in the half. The lead changed six more times before halftime with the last one coming at 9:12 when Clancy hit a three-point shot for his eighth points of the game, giving UPJ a 25-22 advantage.

The Golden Knights eventually tied the game one more time before the half as Evan Phoenix hit a jumper with 2:19 left in the half, evening the score at 38 points. The Mountain Cats closed out the half despite another three-pointer by Gannon's Berger with two seconds left as Pitt-Johnstown tallied eight of the last ten points before Berger's basket, which set up UPJ with a 46-43 lead heading into the second half.

A three-point play by Vescovi at the start of the second put Pitt-Johnstown ahead, 49-43 eight seconds into the period, but Gannon went on an 8-2 run to tie the game at 51 points with 17:42 left in the game after a layup by Phoenix.

Six straight points from Matthew Dogan gave the Golden Knights the advantage once again, 57-51 with 15:20 remaining. The Mountain Cats responded with a 9-0 run highlighted by four points from Vescovi as UPJ was in control once more, 60-57 with 11:41 remaining.

The lead changed three more times before Leahey made a layup with six minutes left to play to knot the score at 71 points. The Mountain Cats then scored nine of the next 11 points to reclaim and stretch their lead out to 80-73 at 3:05 when Leahey drained a three-pointer off of an assist from Clancy.

Leahey's 34 points, seven three-point field goals and two rebounds on the night gives him 1,339 points, 209 three-pointers, and 601 rebounds in his career. He remains ranked 12th place on the Mountain Cat all-time scoring list, fourth place on the all-time three-point field goals made, and 10th place on the all-time rebounding list. He is seven points behind Devlin Herring (1994-98) for 11th place in scoring and three rebounds behind Marcus Tullis (2005-09) for ninth place in rebounding.

Gannon was able to cut their deficit to two points with 1:52 left after a layup from Dogan, but the Golden Knights missed five straight three pointers in the last two minutes as free throws from Leahey and a layup from Vescovi seemed to have helped cement the Mountain Cats' 84-78 victory.

Gannon's Zay Jackson was able to complete a four-point play after being fouled by Clancy with eight seconds left on a successful three point shot to shorten the Pitt-Johnstown lead to two points, 84-82.

Both teams traded free throws at the end of regulation until Dogan nailed a three-pointer with a second on the clock to tie the game at 87 points and send the game in overtime.

Dogan led the Golden Knights, who advanced to 9-5 overall and 6-3 in conference play with the win, with 30 points and was one of three Knights with at least 20 points.

The overtime period started in favor of Gannon as the Golden Knights scored the first seven points and completed a 10-0 run, which commenced with Dogan's buzzer beater three-pointer. The run was capped off by Phoenix making a layup from an assist from Dogan at 3:37 in overtime to put Gannon ahead, 94-87.

Phoenix's layup proved to be the game-clinching points as the Golden Knights made seven free throws in the last two minutes to secure the victory.

The Mountain Cats are to continue their homestand with another PSAC Western Division doubleheader Wednesday against No. 8 California University (Pa.), which is to start with the women's game at 5:30 p.m.
