Mountain Cats Coast to 93-67 Non-Conference Win Over Carlow

Johnstown, PA

4982Marcin Wiszomirski scored a career-high 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead a balanced Mountain attack that saw all 10 Pitt-Johnstown players enter the scoring column in a lopsided 93-67 non-conference victory over Carlow University, Tuesday evening in the Sports Center.  Pitt-Johnstown evened its record at 3-3.

Carlow erased an early 5-0 deficit to take its only lead of the game at 7-6 on Tony Acrie's layup four minutes into the game.

Pitt-Johnstown came right back to regain the lead on Romano Sebastiani's bucket and the Mountain Cats never trailed again.

Pitt-Johnstown went on to outscore the Celtics by 22 the rest of the first half.  Isaac Vescovi scored four straight points to get the Pitt-Johnstown lead into double digits at the 11-minute mark, and Levi Masua's basket in the paint increased it to 34-17 four minutes later.

After Jamil Tarver's 3-pointer with 4:26 left in the half cut Carlow's deficit to 14, the Mountain Cats closed out the half on a 10-3 run.  Wiszomirski's basket with under a minute remaining pushed the lead to 21 and Pitt-Johnstown went into the halftime break leading 46-25.

It was more of the same in the second half.  The Mountain Cats never let the Celtics get closer than 15 in the final 20 minutes.

Two Steven Votodian free-throws at 13:56 matched the 21-point first half lead, and another bucket from Wiszomirski at 7:25 built it to 28 at 74-46.

Pitt-Johnstown got the lead out to as many as 32 with 2:10 left to play, then coasted to the 26-point victory.

Wiszomirski's 22 points and seven led three Mountain Cats who scored in double figures.  Vescovi had 18 points (6-6 free-throws) to move to within 41 points of becoming Pitt-Johnstown's 29th 1,000-point scorer, while Dale Clancy finished with 11 points.  The Mountain Cats also got nine points and seven rebounds from Adam Kline, and nine points each from Sebastiani and Josh WiseOlando King, Jr. grabbed a career and game-high 10 rebounds.
