Pitt-Johnstown clawed back from a 12-point deficit to take a one-point third quarter lead, but Gannon University used a strong fourth quarter and held on for a 65-60 PSAC victory, Wednesday night in Erie.Â
Olivia McCabe had 13 points and seven rebounds to lead the Lady Cats, who fell to 7-15 overall and 3-13 in the PSAC West.

Similar to Saturday's start on the road at Clarion, the Lady Cats got off to a slow start at Gannon on Wednesday. The Golden Knights opened-up a 15-4 lead four minutes into the game on a Chelsea Rourke 3-pointer and a basket from Haley Tewes.

Pitt-Johnstown recovered and got nine straight points from McCabe in a 13-4 Lady Cat run that narrowed the gap to 19-17 with 1:43 left in the first quarter.

Leading 25-19 entering the second quarter, Gannon quickly increased it to 31-19 on Rourke's 3-pointer, followed by two Maggie Mitchell free-throws, but Pitt-Johnstown answered again. This time with a 12-2 spurt over the next 6:30 that cut it to 33-31 on
Maurina Nunn's lay-up and
Alexis Hartwick's 3-pointer.

The Golden Knights made it a four-point lead, but McCabe's bucket at the buzzer got the Lady Cats to with two at 35-33 at the half.

Another 3-pointer by Hartwick erased the 12-point second quarter deficit and gave Pitt-Johnstown's its first lead of the night at 43-42 with 2:42 left in the third quarter, but baskets by Lauren Tewes and Lanise Saunders to close out the quarter put the Golden Knights back on top, 46-43.

After Mitchell's 3-pointer to open the final quarter to rebuild the Gannon lead to six, Nunn connected on a jumper to get the Lady Cats back to within two, but the Golden Knights pushed it back out to a dozen with 1:54 to play.

The Lady Cats battled back to within four with 14 seconds left on Hartwick's fourth 3-pointer of the game, but it was too late and Gannon was able to hold on for the narrow win.

Along with McCabe's 13 points and seven rebounds, Hartwick added 12 points, and Tabon had 11 points and eight rebounds for Pitt-Johnstown. O'Barto finished with nine points, five rebounds and four assists, and Nunn chipped-in six points off the bench.

With her seven rebounds, McCabe moved into 30
th-place on the Lady Cat All-time Rebounding List with 475.

Pitt-Johnstown was held to just 35.1% (20-57) shooting, including just 7-28 from behind the 3-point line. The Lady Cats were 13-15 from the free-throw line.  Gannon shot 47.7% (21-44) from the field, 8-20 from 3-point range, and 15-22 from the charity stripe.

Mitchell finished with a game-high 16 points, while Rourke had 14 points, and Saunders had 11 points and six rebounds for the Golden Knights, who improved to 6-16 overall and 6-10 in the PSAC West.

The Lady Cats return home to host PSAC doubleheaders with the Mountain Cats against Edinboro on Saturday, Indiana (PA) on Feb. 8, and Mercyhurst on Feb. 11.
