Pitt-Johnstown built a quick two-set lead, then needed 15-8 win in the fifth set to hold off Point Park University, 3-sets-to-2, in Tuesday's non-conference match in Pittsburgh.
Marissa Erminio had 13 kills and 15 digs, and
Cambria Wierman added 12 kills and 17 assists for the Mountain Cats, who improved to 4-1 on the year.
Pitt-Johnstown fell behind 8-3 early in the opening set, then fought off a pair of Point Park set points to take the 27-25 win.
It was all Mountain Cats in the second set. Pitt-Jumped out to a lead to begin the set and never gave it up on their way to a 25-14 win to take a 2-sets-to-none advantage.
The Pioneers came back with 25-18 and 25-23 wins in the third and fourth set to stay alive, but Pitt-Johnstown was able to close out the five-set victory with the 15-8 win.

Along with Erminio and Wierman,
Maura Brehl had 10 kills, and
Caitlin Vrabel chipped-in nine kills and four blocks for Pitt-Johnstown.
The Mountain Cats also got 27 set assists from
J.C. Longeville and 18 assists from
Allison Mondorff.
Devan Orr led Pitt-Johnstown with 27 digs.
With the loss, Point Park slipped to 5-5.
Pitt-Johnstown travels the Walsh (OH) University Tournament for four matches on Friday and Saturday, before traveling to the Wheeling Jesuit/West Liberty Tournament for four more matches on September 15-16. The Mountain Cats will make their 2017 home debut in the Sports Center and begin the PSAC schedule against Edinboro on September 22 at 7 p.m. and Slippery Rock on September 23 at 1 p.m.
