Basketball Teams Back Home to Host Mansfield Wednesday Night

The Pitt-Johnstown men's and women's basketball teams return home to the Sports Center Wednesday night to host a PSAC Crossover doubleheader against Mansfield University.  The women will tip-off at 5:30 with the men's game scheduled for 7:30.
 
Drahos, MikeHead Coach Mike Drahos' Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cats made it four wins in their last five outings and improved to 11-8 overall and 6-7 in the PSAC West following Saturday's 79-65 victory at Seton Hill.  Pitt-Johnstown, which snapped a 10-game losing skid to the Griffins, was led by Olivia Fasick's 19 points, six rebounds, and five assists.  Alli McGrath and Gabrielle Smith each scored 16 points, and Maddie Shanahan scored nine points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds for the Mountain Cats.
 
Nationally for the Mountain Cats, smith ranks third in free-throws made (127) and fourth in free-throws attempted (151), while Fasick is 66th in total steals (42) and 67th in total assists (76).  As a team, Pitt-Johnstown ranks 14th in free-throws made (306) and 37th in free-throw percentage (75.9%).
 
Smith enters the game ranked 12th on the Pitt-Johnstown Scoring List with 1,408 points and 25th on the rebounding list with 541 rebounds.
 
Mansfield, under fourth-year Head Coach Michael Whitling, has lost its last eight games and fell to 3-16 overall and 1-12 in the PSAC East after Saturday's 63-60 home loss to Millersville.  Sydney Reed and Alivia Paeglow scored 12 and 11 points respectively, and Jasmine Hilton had 10 points and nine rebounds for the Mounties.
 
Pitt-Johnstown has won the last four meetings between the two schools, including a 98-93 double-overtime victory last season in Mansfield on December 1.  Smith scored a career-high 37 points, and McGrath added a career-high 32 points to lead the Mountain Cats.  Erin Gibbons' 20 points and Mia Leonard's 16 points paced five Mounties who scored in double figures.
 
 
rukavinaAfter a tight loss to seventh-ranked Indiana (PA) last Wednesday, Head Coach Bob Rukavina's Mountain Cats bounced right back and improved to 16-4 overall and 10-3 in the PSAC West with an impressive 86-66 win at Seton Hill on Saturday.  John Paul Kromka, the PSAC West Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season, scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds and Caiden Landis added 14 points and six rebounds to pace six Mountain Cat double-digit scorers.  Fred Mulbah and Joe Batt each scored 11 points, and Donovian Maxfield added a career-high 10 points.
 
Nationally, Kromka ranks third in total blocks (54), fifth in blocks per game (2.7) and 12th in field goal percentage (63.5%), while Mulbah is fifth in total assists (149) and seventh in assists per game (7.5).  As a team, the Mountain Cats rank in the Top-10 in three categories, including sixth in total assists (379), ninth in field goal percentage (51.1%), and 10th in assists per game (19.0).
 
Josh Wise comes in ranked 13th on the Pitt-Johnstown All-Time Scoring List with 1,378 points.
 
Mansfield is 5-13 overall and 4-9 in the PSAC East under second-year Head Coach John Szentesy.  The Mounties dealt Shepherd a 62-61 loss on Wednesday, before falling at home to Millersville, 84-57, on Saturday.  Christian Simmons' double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds led Mansfield against the Marauders.  Garrett Cook and Eli Alvin also scored eight points apiece.
 
Nationally for the Mounties, Trevor English ranks 31st in offensive rebounds per game (3.17), 34th in rebounds per game (9.1), and 35th in total rebounds (163).
 
Pitt-Johnstown and Mansfield have met 34 times and each team has come away with 17 victories.  The Mountain Cats have won five of the last six meetings, including an 85-70 win in Mansfield last season on December 1.  Wise scored a game-high 23 points, while Mulbah and Jared Jakubick added 19 and 14 respectively, for Pitt-Johnstown.  Taylor Sweeney's 19 points and Nysir Mashburn's 18 points and nine rebounds led four Mounties who scored in double figures.
Pitt-Johnstown travels to Gannon for a PSAC doubleheader on Saturday, before returning home to host PSAC doubleheaders against California (PA) next Wednesday and Edinboro for Alumni Night on February 8.
