Volleyball To Host PSAC Homecoming Weekend Matches Against California (PA) and Seton Hill

The Pitt-Johnstown volleyball team will host a pair of Homecoming Weekend PSAC Western Division matches.  The Mountain Cats will host California (PA) on Friday at 7 p.m. in the Sports Center, before welcoming Seton Hill for a match on Saturday at 1 p.m.
 
Coach Morgan Mammosser's Pitt-Johnstown squad enters the weekend at 9-3 overall and 2-2 in the PSAC West. The Mountain Cats had their nine-match winning streak snapped on Friday with a 3-0 loss at Gannon, before suffering a five-set loss at Edinboro on Saturday.  Grace Miller had 10 kills against Gannon, while Lauren Gechter had 17 kills, and Cassie Pascarella and Lualis Alvarado each added 14 kills against Edinboro.
 
California (PA), 7-6 overall and 2-2 in the PSAC West under 11th-year Coach Peter Letourneau, has won its last two matches.  The Vulcans dealt Seton Hill a 3-1 loss on Sept. 28 behind Sarah Moehring had 18 kills, before Kaylin Burkey collected 16 kills to help the Vulcans down Slippery Rock in four sets on Saturday.
 
Pitt-Johnstown leads the all-time series 6-4, including a 3-sets-to-1 win in California on November 16, 2019.  Erin Carmody set the Pitt-Johnstown single-match digs record with 46, while Tatiana Pitcher had 13 kills, and Noelle Carota and Caitlin Vrabel each had 12 kills.  Moehring's 11 kills and 21 digs paced the Vulcans.
 
Seton Hill has won three straight matches for 37th-year Coach Rick Hall and was 9-6 overall and 2-2 in the PSAC West before Friday's match at Clarion.  The Griffins earned a 3-1 non-conference win over West Virginia Wesleyan last Saturday and swept a non-conference match from Point Park on Wednesday behind Mara Yahner's eight kills and Paige Cole's seven kills.
 
Seton Hill holds a 9-8 advantage in the series that began in the 2011 season.  The Griffins have won the last two meetings, including a 3-sets-to-1 win in Greensburg on November 15, 2019.  Viktoria Farian had a match-high 16 kills and Jillian Livorse added 14 kills to pace Seton Hill.  The Mountain got 10 kills apiece from Gechter and Carota.
 
Following this weekend's matches, Pitt-Johnstown goes to Shippensburg for a non-conference match on Tuesday, before hosting PSAC West matches against IUP on October 15 and Clarion on October 16.
