
Glenville State (WV), ranked 10
th in the WBCA NCAA Division II National Poll, built an early lead and used relentless pressure to secure an 88-54 non-conference victory over the Pitt-Johnstown women's basketball team, Monday evening in Glenville, W.Va.
Ashley Norling and
Makalyn Clapper each had 15 points and six rebounds to lead the Mountain Cats, now 2-3 on the year.
The 10
th-ranked Pioneers got off to a quick start and jumped out to an 11-0 lead on an Abby Stoller basket at 7:43. Pitt-Johnstown scored six of the next nine points, including Norling's layup 1:37 later, to cut it to 14-6, but Glenville State pushed the lead out to 18 and took a 31-18 advantage into the second quarter.
Another bucket from Norling and a free-throw from Clapper got the Mountain Cats' deficit down to 31-21 to start the second quarter, but the Pioneers went on to

outscore Pitt-Johnstown, 16-6 over the next 7:25, to take a 47-27 lead into the halftime break on Taychaun Hubbard's basket as time expired.
A 9-2 Mountain Cat run to open the second half, capped by two more baskets in the paint from Norling, helped Pitt-Johnstown narrow the gap to 49-36. The Pioneers regained control and extended its lead to 65-43 on a Deja Atkinson 3-pointer with time winding down in the third quarter.
Glenville State maintained at least a 20-point lead the rest of the way to remain unbeaten and improve to 5-0.
Along with Norling and Clapper, the Mountain Cats also got 13 points and a team-high nine rebounds from
Peyton Alazaus and six points from
Olivia Fasick.

Glenville State's constant pressure took its toll on Pitt-Johnstown. The Pioneers forced 31 turnovers and turned them into 38 points.
The Mountain Cats shot 44.0% (22-50) from the floor and connected on seven of their 13 3-pointers. Glenville State was held to 42.5% (34-80) shooting, but the Pioneers made 13 of their 35 3-pointers. Both teams were 7-13 from the charity stripe.
Hubbard's game-high 21 points and Re'Shawna Stone's 16 points paced four Glenville State players who scored in double figures.
Pitt-Johnstown begins PSAC Crossover-play at West Chester on Friday and at Millersville on Saturday. The Mountain Cats will play their next home game as part of a conference crossover doubleheader with the men's team against Shepherd (WV) on December 14 starting at 5:30 p.m. in the Sports Center.
