Two Mountain Cats hit qualifying marks when the Pitt-Johnstown men's and women's track and field teams returned to indoor action for the first time since 2020 at Friday's season-opening Youngstown State (OH) University Icebreaker Meet..
Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) men's track and field qualifying standards were hit by
Chris Colligan in the high jump and Cristian Thornton in the 200 meters.
Colligan's jump of 2.00 meters gave him a fourth-place finish and matched the best NCAA Division II mark at the meet. The mark stands tied for 12th-best high jump in all of NCAA Division II and narrowly misses the national championship provisional mark of 2.02m. Thornton, a freshman, won section 7 of the 200 meter in 22.66, sending him to a 14th-place finish overall.
Saturday's season-opening meet was attended by 30 Mountain Cats, some narrowly missing qualifying marks. Those near-qualifying athletes and marks are below.
