Baseball Picked Sixth in PSAC Western Division Preseason Poll

WilliamsTodd3.jpgHead Coach Todd Williams' Pitt-Johnstown baseball team, ranked 10th in the NCBWA Atlantic Region Preseason Poll, has been picked to finish sixth in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division when this year's conference coaches' poll was released on Tuesday.

Seton Hill and Mercyhurst earned the top spot in the western division, while Millersville was selected to win the league's eastern division title.

The Mountain Cats return three senior starting pitchers, including 2019 Second-Team All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West choice Brady Walker, who sat out the 2020 season, and Dylan Heid, who posted a 2-1 record with a 1.78 ERA and a team-best 40 strikeouts in 25.1 innings a year ago.  Also returning is senior left-hander Joel Colledge.  Colledge paced the Mountain Cats with a 3-0 record and a 1.53 ERA in 17.2 innings in 2020

UPJ_PSAC_Logo_dark.In the West, there was a tie in first-place votes among Mercyhurst and Seton Hill.  The Lakers were 5-3 before the pandemic and in 2019 appeared in the NCAA Division II College World Series, while the Griffins were 9-4 in the shortened 2020 season.  Seton Hill returns seven seven starters and its top-three starting pitchers.

Millersville claimed seven first-place votes after earning the Eastern Division crown in 2019 and were 14-4 in 2020 before the season was cut short due to COVID-19.

With the addition of Shepherd University in 2020, the Eastern Division will have nine teams while the Western division has eight.
 
Bloomsburg University, East Stroudsburg University, Kutztown University, Lock Haven University, Mansfield University, Shippensburg University, Shepherd, West Chester and Millersville make up the East.
 
The West contains California University of Pennsylvania, Clarion University, Gannon University, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Pitt-Johnstown, Slippery Rock University, Mercyhurst and Seton Hill.
