The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its NCAA Division II National Players of the Week awards for the week ending on March 7, 2021 and selected Pitt-Johnstown senior right-hander
Dylan Heid as the National Pitcher of the Week and Colorado Mesa's sophomore catcher/designated hitter Haydn McGeary the National Hitter of the Week.
Heid (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley), named the PSAC West and NCBWA Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Week earlier this week, threw a no-hitter in Saturday's 2021 season-opener against West Liberty (W.Va.) University. Heid fanned 13 in the seven-inning, 1-0 victory. Heid faced 24 hitters, walked three and hit one in 93 pitches.
McGeary (Peoria, Ariz./Thunderbird HS) had a monster week during Colorado Mesa's mini two-game sweep of Adams State. McGeary hit .700 (7-for-10) with five of his seven hits going for extra bases. Not only that, he drove in 16 runs, including nine in Sunday's victory. McGeary's OPS in the two games was 2.436 and he slugged over 1.556.
