Dylan Heid Named Pitt-Johnstown’s First ABCA/Rawlings and DIICCA First-Team All-American


Heid_DylanPitt-Johnstown's Dylan Heid became Pitt-Johnstown's first baseball player to garner First-Team All-America honors by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings and the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (DIICCA) when this year's teams were released on Friday.
 
Heid, a senior right-hander from Malvern, Pa., was earlier named a Second-Team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
 
Heid, a graduate of Great Valley High School, posted a 7-2 record with six complete games, four shutouts, and a 1.37 ERA in 59.1 innings in 2021.  He also led the Mountain Cats with 105 strikeouts to just 15 walks, while holding opponent hitters to a .126 batting average.  Heid allowed just nine earned runs in his 59.1 innings and surrendered just 25 hits.
 
Heid, a five-time PSAC West Pitcher of the Week choice, a 3-time Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Week selection, and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) National Pitcher of the Week on March 11 after tossing a no-hitter and striking out 13 against West Liberty, led the PSAC in complete games, ERA, Hits Allowed Per 9-Innings, Strikeouts, Strikeouts per 9-innings, and WHIP.
 
Nationally, Heid ranks second in NCAA Division II in Hits Per 9-innings (3.79), WHIP (.67), third in complete games (6) and strikeouts per 9-innings (15.93), fourth ABCA_Rawlings_All_America_Logo.jpgin ERA (1.37), seventh in strikeouts (105), and 27th in strikeout-to-walk-ratio (7.00).
 
The ABCA All-America team was first recognized in 1949 and now includes nine divisions: NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA Divisions I, II and III, Pacific Association Division, and high school. ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were first recognized in 2007.

The Chair of the ABCA NCAA Div. II All-America & Coach of the Year Committee is Rudy Garbalosa of Lynn University. Also on the committee are Randy Betten (Cal Poly Pomona), Jamie Detillion (Grand Valley State University), Jim Gantt (Catawba College), Rick Giannetti (Dominican College), Alex Koch (Wayne State College), Rob Penders (St. Edward's University) and Joe Spano (Mercyhurst University).
 
The ABCA, founded in 1945, is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its over 13,000 members represent all 50 states and 25 countries. Since its initial meeting of 27 college baseball coaches in June 1945, Association membership has broadened to include eight divisions: NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA, Pacific Association Division, High School and Youth.
 
Senior pitcher Zach Parish from Missouri Southern State University and sophomore designated hitter Haydn McGeary from Colorado Mesa University, headline the 2021 NCAA?Division II?Conference Commissioners Association All-America baseball team, earning the Ron Lenz Pitcher and Player of the Year Awards, respectively. A total of 48?student-athletes were named to either the first, second or third team All-America squad while 16 were named honorable mention.
 
The CCA All-America and All-Region baseball teams, which are selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)?members from schools playing Division II baseball, were first established in 2007. This is the sixth year in which the program is solely sponsored by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association.
