Wrestlers Set to Host Mountain Cat Quad Meet, Saturday in Sports Center

Head Coach Pat Pecora and the 11th-ranked Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cat wrestlers will welcome Fairmont State (WV), King (TN), and Lake Erie (OH) for a Quad Match, Saturday in the Sports Center.

Three rounds of dual meets will take place on two matches starting at 10 a.m.

      Pitt-Johnstown, ranked 11th in the most recent NWCA National Poll under 47th-year Head Coach Pat Pecora, is 2-0 following a  28-9 win over sixth-ranked West Liberty (WV) to open the year on Nov. 3 in the Sports Center and a 41-6 victory at East Stroudsburg on Nov. 16.  Fifteen Mountain Cat wrestlers also combined to post a 33-15 record against all Division I opponents at the Journeymen Collegiate on Nov. 13.
     The Mountain Cats are led by three-time All-American and 12th-ranked Brock Biddle at 184 lbs., two-time All-American and second-ranked Jacob Ealy at 149 lbs., and 2022 All-American and fourth-ranked Nate Smith at 157 lbs.  In addition, 2022 NCAA National Qualifiers Caleb Morris, ranked 10th at 141 lbs., and Dillon Keane, ranked 12th at 165 lbs., are back in the line-up, as well as 11th-ranked Oggie Atwood (285 lbs.).
 
      First-year Head Coach Gennaro Bonaventura's Fairmont State (WV) Falcons enter the quad at 4-5 on the season.  Three of Fairmont State's victories have come over Mountain East Conference foes Alderson Broaddus, Notre Dame (OH), and Davis & Elkins (WV).  The Falcons also suffered setbacks to Messiah, RIT, and Shippensburg in their last outing at the Waynesburg Duals on Nov. 19.
     King (TN) University, under first-year Head Coach Nick Goebel, is 4-4 following Wednesday's, 47-6, victory at Emory & Henry (VA).  Brennan Watkins (149 lbs.), Trent Mahoney (157 lbs.), and Dallin Ewart (174 lbs.) all won by fall for King.  Prior to that, the Tornado finished with eight place-winners at the King Open on Nov. 19.  Preston Soriano won the title at 125 lbs., while Austin Kolikas (149 lbs.) and Mahoney (157 lbs.) each placed second.
 
     First-year Head Coach Boomer Fechko and the 21st-ranked Lake Erie (OH) Storm are 3-1.  After a season-opening loss to No. 6 West Liberty (WV) on Nov. 10, the Storm picked-up wins over Belmont-Abbey (NC), Davis & Elkins (WV), and the hosts at the Seton Hill Duals on Nov. 19.
     The Storm is led by 2022 NCAA All-American and fifth-ranked James Penfold at 174 lbs. and No. 6-ranked Christian Small at 141 lbs.

      Following Saturday's Quad Match, Pitt-Johnstown's to 16th-ranked Ashland (OH) on Friday and to Findlay (OH) next Saturday, before closing out the first semester at the Midwest Classic in Indianapolis on Dec. 17-18.  The Mountain Cats will wrestle their next match in the Sports Center on Jan. 18 against Gannon.
