
Olivia Fasick poured in a game-high 15 points and
Peyton Alazaus added 13 points to pace four Mountain Cat double figure scorers, but 25
th-ranked Gannon used a strong second half to hold off Pitt-Johnstown, 66-61, Monday night in Erie. The Mountain Cats, who knocked-off the then No. 14-ranked Golden Knight earlier this season in the Sports Center, slipped to 9-13 overall and 7-9 in the PSAC West.
Fasick finished with 15 points, four rebounds, and four assists, while Alazaus knocked down four 3-pointers and finished with 13 points. Pitt-Johnstown also got 12 points and four rebounds from
Ashley Norling, 12 points from
Makalyn Clapper and a game-high nine rebounds from
Molly Wagoner.
Pitt-Johnstown forced six turnovers in the first six minutes and ran out to a 13-4 lead on 3-pointers from Clapper and Fasick. The Mountain Cats, who held Gannon to 3-10 shooting, maintained at least a five-point advantage and took a 15-8 lead into the second quarter on Norling's driving layup.
The momentum stayed with Pitt-Johnstown. The Mountain Cats jumped on the Golden Knights for 10 straight points to open the quarter, including two free-throws from Fasick and a Alazaus


3-pointer, that made it 25-8 at the midway point. After Pitt-Johnstown forced seven Gannon straight misses, the Golden Knights hit a pair of 3-pointers and used two free-throws from Samantha Pirosko at 2:54 to cut it to 25-17. The Mountain Cats, who limited Gannon to just 28.6% shooting in the first half, held that eight-point lead and went into the halftime break on top, 28-20.
Five straight points out of the break got Gannon back to within three, but the Mountain Cats quickly responded with Clapper's 3-pointer and Wagoner's free-throws to push it back out to eight at 33-25 at the 7:06 mark. The Golden Knights clawed back with McKel Nation's bucket late in the quarter to narrow it to 40-38.
Alazaus' fourth 3-pointer of the night just over two minutes into the fourth quarter got the Pitt-Johnstown lead back out to six. The Mountain Cats held the lead until Sydney Mitchell's 3-pointer with 2:48 remaining gave the Golden Knights their first lead of the night at 52-51. Gannon extended it to four, before Pitt-Johnstown cut it to one on three occasions with the last coming on Fasick's 3-pointer with :18. However, the Golden Knights made five-of-six free-throws in the final :18 to hold off the Mountain Cats.

Pitt-Johnstown shot 44% (22-52 from the floor, made eight 3-pointers and all nine of it free-throws, while the Golden Knights ended the night shooting 42% (21-52) from the floor and 6-15 from behind the arc. Gannon was also 18-22 from the charity stripe.
Tori Obendorfer and Pirosko each collected a dozen points and six rebounds for the Golden Knight, now 17-4 overall and 12-4 in the PSAC West.
Pitt-Johnstown returns home to the Sports Center to host Slippery Rock as part of a conference doubleheader with the men's team on Wednesday starting at 5:30 p.m., before visiting Clarion for a conference game on Saturday.
