The Pitt-Johnstown baseball team will open a key four-game PSAC Western Division series against Mercyhurst with a pair of games at Point Stadium on Friday.  The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.

Head Coach Todd Williams' Mountain Cats, 13-12-1 overall and 2-6 in the PSAC West, is coming off of a 4-2 non-conference victory over Bloomsburg on Tuesday.  Lennox Pugh collected three hits and drove in a pair, while five Mountain Cat pitchers held the Huskies to just two runs on six hits.  Jared Hoener picked up the win in relief of starter Luke Schrock, and Seth Coleman tossed the final two innings to earn his first collegiate save.  Pitt-Johnstown also split a four-game PSAC series with Clarion last weekend.

Mercyhurst, under 23rd-year Head Coach Joe Spano, is 15-6 overall and 4-4 in conference-play.  The Lakers used two hits, including a three-run homer and four RBI, from Jack Elliott in an 8-5 non-conference victory over Laker Erie (OH) on Tuesday.  In PSAC-play last weekend, Mercyhurst dropped three-of-four games to Gannon.

Pitt-Johnstown and Mercyhurst split last year's four-game PSAC series.  On April 2 in Erie, Dylan Heid tossed a two-hitter and Pugh drove in two in a 2- Pitt-Johnstown win to open the series.  The Lakers took the nightcap, 4-1.  The next day in Johnstown, erased an early three-run deficit to take the opener, 6-4, before Mercyhurst secured the split with a 13-3 win in game two.

Pitt-Johnstown will close out the series with a pair of games against the Lakers in Erie on Saturday, before hosting a non-conference game against Shippensburg on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Point Stadium.
