Vito Addalli's Pitt-Johnstown women's soccer team was picked to finish sixth in the nine-team field in the Western Division when the 2022 PSAC Preseason Women's Soccer Coaches' Poll was released on Tuesday.
Mercyhurst received four first-place votes, one more than Gannon and two more than Slippery Rock, and was selected by the coaches to win the PSAC Western Division, while Kutztown (4 First-place votes) and West Chester (3 First-Place votes) were tied atop the PSAC Eastern Division Poll.
The Mountain Cats return 22 players from the 2021 squad that was 5-11-2 overall and 4-10-2 in conference-play, including the team's top four scorers. Sophomore Second-Team All-PSAC selection
Morgan Kost led Pitt-Johnstown in goals (9) and points (23), while
Haley Neidig, a Second-Team D2CCA All-Atlantic Region and Second-Team All-PSAC West choice added seven goals, seven assists, and 21 points. In addition, senior
Emily Esser (6 goals, 3 assists, 15 points), a First-Team All-PSAC West selection, and sophomore
Lydia Roman (6 goals, 2 assists, 14 points) return to the Mountain Cats' line-up.
The Top-4 teams at the end of the regular season in each division will earn spots in the 2022 PSAC Women's Soccer Tournament scheduled for November 1-6.
Pitt-Johnstown will open the 2022 season with a non-conference match at Shepherd (WV) on August 25, before making its home debut against Lock Haven on August 28 at 1 p.m. at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.
