The Pitt-Johnstown men's soccer team will kick-off the 2022 season with a non-conference match against Shepherd (WV) University, Wednesday afternoon at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field. Kick-off is set for 4 p.m.
Head Coach Eric Kinsey's Mountain Cat team returns it's top scorer in sophomore Alexzander Toto, who tallied a team-best four goals and nine points as a freshman a year ago, and senior midfielder Adan Cabrera-Perez who collected five assists in 2021. In addition, Pitt-Johnstown returns a pair of goalkeepers with starting experience in junior Sage Parsley and sophomore PJ Derksen.
Shepherd, under second-year Head Coach Ryan McDougall, is 0-1-1 to start the year. After a 3-0 loss to the University of the District of Columbia to open the season on Thursday, the Rams battled to a 0-0 draw with Bloomfield (NJ) on Saturday.
Pitt-Johnstown and Shepherd met last season in Shepherdstown, W.Va. on September 12 and the Rams used Brandon Hurt's goal in the 40th minute to hold off the Mountain Cats, 1-0. Parsley made nine saves for Pitt-Johnstown.
The Mountain Cats visit D'Youville (NY) for a non-conference match on Monday, before returning home to host a non-conference match against Washington Adventist (MD) on Friday, September 9 at 3 p.m. at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.
