Mountain Cats turned aside by East Stroudsburg

Johnstown, PA

Kromka, WillPitt-Johnstown could never find enough traction to keep pace with an experienced East Stroudsburg core in a 108-59 setback on Tuesday afternoon in the Sports Center.

The Mountain Cats dropped to 3-7 (1-3 PSAC). The Warriors won their third straight game and moved to 8-1 (3-1 PSAC).

Will Kromka paced the Mountain Cats with 11 points. Andrew Shull added a team-high 10 points and four assists. Elijah Sechler had nine points and Vinnie Cugini added eight a day after setting a career-high.

After Shull knocked down a three and assisted on Will Kromka's layup a minute and a half in to give Pitt-Johnstown a 5-4 advantage, it was all East Stroudsburg.

The Mountain Cats hung around until nearly the midway point of the first half when Cugini's driving layup cut the deficit to 23-14. But the Warriors answered with a game-changing 24-0 rally that spanned more than four minutes and put them on top 47-14.

It was more even over the final six-plus minutes, but East Stroudsburg went into the break with a 61-28 lead.

Warriors redshirt junior Lakeem McAiley recorded a double-double with a game-high 32 points on 11 of 16 from the field and 11 rebounds in 21 minutes. Jaelen McGlone added 24 points and four steals.

A significant deciding factor was in the rebounding department where East Stroudsburg posted a 43-24 advantage. The Warriors also had 31 points off turnovers and built a 38-22 edge in points in the paint.

After a 10-day hiatus for Christmas break, Pitt-Johnstown visits Kutztown for another PSAC crossover meeting on Dec. 30 in a 3 p.m. tip-off in the second game of a doubleheader with the women's team.
